When SAP Labs India wanted to speak to children of its employees about sustainability, the answer was a story. One that could spark curiosity, feel playful, and quietly inspire action. This coffee table book had to make sustainability something children could understand, enjoy, and believe they could be part of.
Create an engaging way to introduce sustainability to young readers, helping them understand why caring for the planet matters and show them the small things they could do to help.
The story also needed to reflect SAP’s own commitment to reducing its environmental impact, adding credibility without feeling preachy. The goal was to inspire children to see themselves as part of the solution.
We chose storytelling because stories stay with us. Drawing from children’s love for superheroes, we created a playful world with a friendly alien, a not-so-friendly monster, and three brave kids known as the Planet Warriors.
Through their journey, ideas around the three Rs, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, were woven naturally into the plot. The learning happened as the story unfolded, making it feel effortless rather than instructional.
Illustration led the way. Each page was filled with handcrafted visuals designed to spark imagination and invite kids into the world of the story. The style stayed simple, colorful, and relatable, helping young readers picture themselves as everyday heroes.
The book closed with a simple seven-step action plan, giving children easy ways to start caring for the planet.
The book struck a chord with readers, young and old. It was warmly received by SAP employees, partners, and stakeholders, and quickly became a conversation starter across the SAP Labs India campus and beyond.
More importantly, it found a place in homes. Sitting on tables, being read and reread, and quietly nurturing a new generation of planet warriors.
